This week, we got started on planning the 4th phase of the project and we started to prepare for our TPOL. A TPOL is a "Transitional Presentation of Learning." It is something that is required at High Tech High at the end of the year. The point of them is to show what you have done and learned this year to show that you are ready to go on to the grade. To start preparing for this, I talked about my strengths and weaknesses in each class.

This week, we went on a camping trip to Cuyamaca to take our astrophotography photos for the 3rd phase of the project. We Stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. My groups goal was to get a photo of Saturn and Jupiter. Unfortunately on the first night, after we set up our telescope, we found out that we cant use it because we were missing one chord for it so we had to take it down and wait till the next night.
This week, we really started to prepare for our camping trip in Cuyamaca next week. My group was mainly focused on making sure we had all the equipment we need and all the programs we need to run the telescope we need. We also planned out what tent we were going to use and who in the group was bringing what by making a group packing list and making a personal packing list.. We have the biggest group with 9 people so we have a huge tent and we are going to have a lot of food and other materials. My groups goal for the trip is to get a photo of Saturn and Jupiter. We found out what time the planets will be at the highest point in the sky so we could be ready to take pictures of them. We found out that we have to be up at 4:00 AM to get a photo of both planets. To get these photos, we are hooking up a small camera to a bug telescope. The camera will be hooked up to a computer with a program that runs the camera and then it will take multiple shots. Later on after we get those shots, we will have to put them all together and process them to get a clear photo of both planets. This week, we planned on finishing printing our landscape photos but found out we couldn't because we ran out of metallic photo paper, so we decided to get a early start on learning about astrophotography. We chose an object in space to take a photo of and based off of what we chose, we got in to groups with other students that chose the same thing. I chose planetary and my groups goal is to get a shot of Saturn. To take these photos, we are planning on going on a class camping trip.
I am on the fundraising team for the project and we have been very successful so far. Our job is to help raise money for the project so we can buy more equipment like cameras and tripods. To raise money, the group and I decided to go outside in front of the school and cook and sell grilled cheese at lunch time and we were very successful. We did it a couple of times and ended up making around $150.
At the beginning of the week we were looking at landscape shots from the Super Bloom happening because of all of the rain. We talked more about landscape photos and learned more about converging lines and foreground depth.
This week, me a group of other students went and hiked around the Mission Trails Dam to take photos. We were hoping to get good a landscape photo for the second phase of the project. I don't feel like I got a good landscape shot on this trip but, I am starting to get more ideas of where to take the photos and how I am going to take them. This week, we did two socratic seminars and we are staring to finish developing our photos. Our two seminar questions were, "Are you responsible for your own American Dream?" and "Are the wealthy responsible for helping the poor?" On Monday, I sat on the outside of the Seminar and observed with a group of other students. That group of students and I were all in the next seminar and the people that were in the day before were now on the outside.
This week we started to make and develop our negative photos for chemistry. These are the photos we took and we are going to be putting on the papers we are making in chemistry. We also finished our final drafts of our 1,000 word pieces with the photo we chose from Dorothea Lange.
